Jan 26, 2015 Lisa rated it it was ok Shelves: life-skills Normally I love anything put out by America’s Test Kitchen, but I’ve tried a number of recipes from this cookbook and so far none were tasty enough to make me want to make them again. Not only that, the recipes took longer to make than I would have expected from a cookbook that claims to offer “quick” recipes. That said, I own and love America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook and highly recommend it for everyday cooking. flag Like · see review

Oct 23, 2010 MaryAnn rated it it was amazing Shelves: cookbooks If cooking were a religion, this cookbook would be my bible. Many of the recipes are repeats of those in the original, red cookbook. But the advantage of this cookbook is that I can cook from it on a daily basis and know that I am eating well-balanced and delicious meals. You’d probably die of a heart attack at 40 if you cooked out of the original cookbook on a daily basis. flag Like · see review

Just throwing in a shout-out for the Best Simple Recipes cookbook. We have been plowing our way through it for several months and haven’t come across a bad recipe yet. Our preference for meals leans heavily toward “real” cooking even on weeknights, and the BSR cookbook strikes an excellent balance between weeknight-do-able and sufficiently-home-cooked. We also recently received the Best 30-Minute Recipes book and haven’t had the chance to explore it in detail, but a quick perusal leads me to suspect that BSR is still the better choice if you enjoy cooking.posted by briank at 11:01 AM on January 6, 2011

Jan 13, 2015 Tracy Clement rated it liked it In comparison to my favorite America’s Test Kitchen cookbook, these recipes didn’t offer improvements for me. Many times they were less healthy, and they also didn’t take much less time. I’ll stick with the original. flag Like · see review

Another great cookbook from Test Kitchen! Yes, some recipes are repeated from other books but the make ahead tips are helpful to this freezer cooking/plan ahead mama. I like how some recipes are a bit simpler for the busy family because let’s be honest, some of their recipes are time consuming. This is worth picking up!!!

Apr 25, 2011 Danielle rated it it was amazing I am in love with this cookbook! It is extremely well organized with sections ranging from appetizers to family favorites to grilling. The recipes are healthy without being tasteless and my family will actually eat them! So far I’ve made Green Goddess Dip with veggies, Grilled Rosemary-Garlic Chicken Kebabs, and Breakfast Burritos. All three recipes have been a hit. I can’t wait to cook some of the others. flag Like · see review

Jan 16, 2012 Lynne Van Wagenen rated it really liked it I need to buy this book. I’ve been using the library’s copy. Everything has turned out really well, with universal thumbs up from the entire family. I can see myself making almost everything in this cookbook. It tells you when light ingredients work and when then don’t. It has a section of family friendly recipes and identifies fast recipes for busy weeknights. flag Like · see review

I’d recommend the ATK Family Cookbook. If you’re looking for the best versions of standard, weeknight recipes, I think that’s the book you’d want to buy. I found the binder a little annoying at first, but have gotten past this by photocopying my favorite recipes and taking the copy into the kitchen so the original doesn’t get frayed.posted by belau at 7:40 AM on January 6, 2011

One of my favorite go-to cookbooks for good family fare. “Healthy” connotes better, healthier eating overall: less fat, more produce/whole grains, less meat (in recipes such as stir fries), and the like. This is most definitely NOT a diet cookbook; instead, it’s simply a healthy approach to everyday cooking. Highly recommended.

Jan 04, 2014 Amber rated it it was amazing Great cookbook. Uses real ingredients and what looks like they will not sacrifice taste. There are some smart reworks of classic recipes. Using egg whites and one egg, for example, will cut the calories and not the flavor. Also many good tips and suggestions for cooking gear to make your kitchen time more efficient. flag Like · see review
